NFL Week 3 Preview: New York Giants vs. Cleveland Browns
Game Preview:
This Sunday, September 22, 2024, the New York Giants will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns in a Week 3 matchup at Huntington Bank Field. The Browns, currently sitting at 1-1, are favored by 6.5 points, while the Giants remain winless at 0-2. Both teams come into this game with a lot on the line.
The Giants have struggled to find their footing this season, losing a close game to the Washington Commanders in Week 2 (21-18) after being blown out by the Minnesota Vikings in their opener. Daniel Jones has shown flashes of good play, throwing for two touchdowns last week, but the Giants’ offense continues to struggle with consistency. Their defense has had some strong individual performances but lacks the cohesion needed to keep them competitive against strong teams.
The Browns, meanwhile, bounced back from a disappointing Week 1 loss to the Cowboys with an 18-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Deshaun Watson looked more comfortable in Week 2, although the Browns’ offense hasn’t been firing on all cylinders. However, their defense, led by Myles Garrett and supported by a strong secondary, has been rock solid, and Cleveland will look to use that strength to keep New York’s offense in check.
My Picks: Point Spread and Over/Under
Point Spread Pick:
I would take the Cleveland Browns -6.5. The Giants are struggling offensively, and their defense has been inconsistent. Cleveland’s defense should be able to stifle New York’s attack, and while the Browns’ offense isn’t lighting up the scoreboard, they should do enough to cover the spread against a struggling Giants team.
Over/Under Pick:
I would lean towards the under 38.5 points. Both teams have had difficulty scoring consistently, and the Browns’ defense, in particular, has shown the ability to keep opponents in check. With Cleveland’s defense likely to control the game and neither offense showing explosive potential, a low-scoring affair seems probable.
